…and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Matthew 6:12 & 14-15
Forgiveness was and still is the primary mission statement of Jesus Christ. His blood which was shed on Calvary’s Cross had to be spotless and holy. For the sacrifice to have been worthy He had to:
1. Lead a perfect and holy life without any sin.
2. He also had to shed His blood to the point of death
3. He had to resurrect.
This is the greatest mission taken on by Our Messiah to depict the greatest love story of all. It is a story that shows us how an Eternal King, humbled Himself in human form, becoming a mockery and sin offering to His own creation; that we, the very people who persecuted and crucified Him could receive forgiveness, healing and eternal life with Him in heaven.
What would you then say is our #1 Mission Statement as a people?
The answer is to give forgiveness as freely as God forgave us and loved us even while we were still sinners (Matthew 10:8 & Romans 5:8).
To withhaold forgiveness is therefore, to withold it from ourselves which has catastrophically far reaching effects (see an article at tinyurl.com/UnforgivenessDrLeaf) that shows how scientists are even discovering the power of forgiveness. The main impact of unforgiveness is not the anger, bitterness or resent that we carry around and allow fester within us. It is the truth that even God, Himself, is prevented from even forgiving us.
His ‘Word’ is divine legislation by which He is even bound to. Therefore, no matter how deep the pain and the hurts may be, His love and forgiveness’ access have thus been restricted. We constrict ourselves into a bubble of self-destructive spiritual suicide where He is the audience that is watching us on the edge of the building but His hands are tied by our own action and is tightened by our unrelenting rebellion.
So, we embrace the cancer of unforgiveness as if it were our ‘first love.’ We nurse and care for it as if it were a gift to be cherished and protected; some of us knowing fully well that it will destroy us; yet we hold fast even tighter.
Prayers for Today:
LOVING & MOST FORGIVING MESSIAH, it is with a heavy heart that I come to You this morning. You have seen my hurts and my pains; You have seen the injustice that has been done to me. I know I have not forgiven those have done this evil to me, and I also know it’s wrong. I ask for Your grace today to break me loose from this bondage of unforgiveness, anger and resentment. Set me free today Lord Jesus; that I may forgive all those that have trespassed against me in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
LORD JESUS I thank You for setting me free now and I thank You for Your Grace. I forgive them Lord. I FORGIVE THEM FOR EVERY SINFUL THING THAT THEY HAVE EVER DONE AGAINST ME. I FORGIVE THEM LORD AND ASK YOU TO FORGIVE THEM AS WELL. MOST IMPORTANTLY MIGHTY GOD I ASK YOU TO FORGIVE ME FOR WITHHOLDING YOUR FORGIVENESS. Heal me entirely even now, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!!!
